Calgary Canucks Help Kids Get In The Game!

The Calgary Canucks were in the community on Wednesday evening, January 25th where the entire team helped in the execution of the Canadian Tire – The First Shift program.

This initiative is geared towards boys and girls between the ages of 6 to 10 who are not currently enrolled in minor hockey. For a small enrolment fee,  the kids are fitted for brand new Bauer hockey equipment from head to toe, and in future weeks have the opportunity to be involved in on-ice sessions with experienced hockey instructors.

The Calgary Canucks were on hand for the registration, and equipment fitting day for the kids.  The players were divided into various stations, and helped kids to sign-up, helped to size kids for skates, helped to fit kids for helmets, helped the kids pick out a pair of gloves, and helped the kids to select a stick with the appropriate curve.

Close to 60 kids were in attendance at Max Bell Centre, where the initiative was held.  All kids got a special autograph placard to get some signatures from their favourite Canucks players, and a ticket to an upcoming Canucks home game!

The inspiration for The First Shift program is to get 1 million new kids playing the game of hockey across Canada in the next 10 years.  That is a goal that the Calgary Canucks organization would like to see happen, which is why the team was very proud to offer their assistance at this wonderful event.
