Canucks Finish Off the Week with a Win

Canucks fall to the Eagles

Tuesday night the Canucks visited Canmore to face off against the Eagles for the second time this season.  The Eagles started out the scoring as #17 Braden Saretsky put one in the back of the net.   #20 Logan Furguson added to the Eagles lead with a goal at 11:36  with help from #10 Matt Forchuk and #51 Adamu Tanaka.  After 20 minutes of play the Eagles had a 2-0 lead and the Canucks were leading in shots 13-9.

Looking to battle back in the second Canucks forward #12 Andrew Marshall scored on the power play to bring the Canucks within one.  Assists on the goal went to #22 Josh Giacomin and #7 Josh Gagne.   Midway through the period the Canucks tied the game 2-2 with another power play goal this time from #28 Brett Van Os who was set up by #5 Coby Mack and #18 Matt Painchaud.  The Eagles responded quickly scoring just 19 seconds later as #29 Bryce Platt put one in the net.  At 17:04 #16 Brayden Brown tied up the game once again with help from #8 Dylan Williamson and #5 Coby Mack.  At the end of the period things were tied up at 3.  Shots on net were 28-16 in favour of the Canucks.

Things were not meant to be for the Canucks in the third as the Eagles scored on 3 opportunities to take the game 6-3.  The Eagles fourth goal came a 1:49 of the third from #12 Colton Young, assists on the goal going to #20 Logan Furguson and #22 Daly Hamilton.  #51 Adamu Tanaka extended the lead to 5-3 with help from #55 Mitch Zambon and #29 Bryce Platt.  The Eagles made it 6-3 with a power play goal from #20 Logan Furguson at 13:04.  At the end of the third the Shots on net were 38-25 for the Canucks.

The Canucks game star for the night was #16 Brayden Brown.

Tough Loss in Bonnyville

This weekend the Canucks headed up north for a two game road trip which started in Bonnyville Friday night.  In the first meeting against the Pontiacs at the AJHL Showcase the Canucks took the game 6-3.  With the first period underway the Pontiacs were first on the board with a power play goal at 4:39 from #24 Riley Smith.  With just one minute remaining in the period Canucks forward #18 Matt Painchaud capitalized on an opportunity with help from #9 Ben Assad and #28 Brett Van Os to tie the game at 1.  At the end of the first the score remained 1-1, with Canucks out shooting the Pontiacs 16-7.

The second period was quiet on both ends of the ice as neither team was able to take the lead.   With that said the Canucks had another great period landing another 17 shots on net.  After 40 minutes it was still 1-1, with shots on net being 33-16 in favour of the Canucks.

Just 13 seconds into the third period #29 Brendan Holterus broke the tie making it 2-1 for the Pontiacs with help from #25 PJ Marrocco and #3 Jake Gresh.  Midway through the period #25 PJ Marrocco extended the Pontiacs lead to 3-1.  #28 Charlie Gawlicki scored on the power play at 19:28 to make it 4-1.  Before the game was over #8 Dylan Williamson put one in the net with 3 seconds remaining to make it 4-2.  Although the Canucks played a great game they couldn’t put enough past the Pontiacs goaltender Sandro Silvestre to take the win.  Shot on net at the end of the game were 44 for the Canucks and 33 for the Pontiacs.

Canucks Rebound with a win against the Bobcats

After a tough break in Bonnyville the Canucks were looking to turn things around Saturday night when they visited Lloydminster to take on the Bobcats for the first time this season. #23 Mark Drohan put one past the Bobcats goaltender at 11:26 to put the Canucks up 1-0, with the assist going to #25 Braydon Jenkins.  At the end of the period the Canucks were leading across the board with a score of 1-0 and shots 13-4.

In the second period the Canucks extended their lead when #12 Andrew Marshall put one in the net from #17 Cale Chalifoux and #22 Josh Giacomin.  The Bobcats responded to bring the game back within one as #9 Zach Webb scored on the power play from #19 Scott Ivey.  After 40 minutes of play it was 2-1 Canucks. Shots at the end of the period were 24-8 in favour of the Canucks.

In the third the Canucks ran away with the game.  At 9:23 #16 Braydon Brown made it 3-1 after being set up on the play by #28 Brett Van Os and #6 Scott Nicholson.  #19 Parker Ward added to the Canucks lead with a goal at 16:32.  Assists on the goal went to #25 Braydon Jenkins and #22 Josh Giacomin.   Before the game was over #18 Matt Painchaud scored on the power play to extend the lead to 5-1 from #28 Brett Van Os and #17 Cale Chalifoux.  With a 5-1 lead the Canucks took the win! Shots at the end of the game were 36 for the Canucks and 17 for the Bobcats.

The star of the game for the Canucks was #28 Brett Van Os.

Tuesday, November 22nd the Canucks are back at home where they take on the Canmore Eagles.  Puck drops at 7:00 pm at Max Bell Centre.  The Spruce Grove Saints are in town to take on the Canucks Friday night before a visit from the Drayton Valley Thunder on Saturday.  Game times are 7:00 pm and 5:00 pm, respectively.  Come out and cheer on the Canucks!
