Canucks Have 4 Point Weekend After Two Overtime Wins!

Canucks Take the Game 4-3 Against the Wolverines

The Canucks headed up north last weekend to take on the Whitecourt Wolverines on Friday before heading to Grande Prairie to take on the Storm. 

Facing off against the Wolverines for the third time this season the Canucks were looking to repeat their last meeting and take the win.  Things didn’t start well Friday night as the Wolverines were the first on the board with a goal by #3 Noah Tooke at 9:24 in the first.  Just over a minute later the Wolverines extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal by #21 Justin Young.  After the first it was 2-0 for Whitecourt and shots were 14-11 in favour of the Canucks.

With the second underway the Canucks were looking to make an impact this period to get back in the game.  #6 Scott Nicholson put the Canucks within one after getting one past the Wolverines goaltender at 9:27 of the second with help from #24 Nic Herringer and #25 Braydon Jenkins. The Wolverines were the next to strike in the period with a short-handed goal from #34 Mitch Lipon.  After 40 minutes of play the Wolverines were leading 3-1.

At 14:50 of the third #27 Jordan McConnell put one on the board for the Canucks with help from #15 Zach Russell to bring the team back within one.   With just 8 seconds remaining #18 Matt Painchaud set up Canucks defenseman #23 Mark Drohan to tie the game.  After completing the comeback in the third the game was headed to Overtime.

#18 Matt Painchaud was able to finish things for the Canucks scoring an unassisted goal to win the game by a score of 4-3! Shots at the end of the game were 46-28 for the Canucks. 

With the game winner #18 Matt Painchaud was named the star of the game.

Canucks Repeat Against the Grande Prairie Storm!

After an overtime win on Friday the Canucks were looking for a good follow up performance against the Grande Prairie Storm Saturday night.  After beating the Storm 3-1 in the first match up of the season over a week ago the Canucks were looking to go 2-0 against the Storm this season. 

The Grande Prairie Storm got the first goal of the game from #10 Dallas Comeau at 1:53 of the first period.  The Canucks were quick to respond less than 3 minutes later as #28 Brett Van Os put one in the back of the net from #18 Matt Painchaud and #9 Ben Assad.   On the powerplay the Storm made it 2-1 with a goal from #19 Justin Bjornson.  After 20 minutes of play the Storm were up 2-1.  Shots at the end of the period were 12-6 for the Storm.

Starting the second with the power play the storm were able to capitalize getting their third goal of the game at 0:35 from #18 Logan Mazerolle.  #21 Kyler Magus brought the Canucks within one after scoring his first goal of the season with help from #22 Josh Giacomin and #5 Coby Mack.  The score was 3-2 after the second period, with the Storm still leading in shots.

In the third, #22 Josh Giacomin made it 3-3 scoring at 11:15 of the third period, assist on the goal going to #5 Coby Mack.  With neither team able to score in the third to break the tie the Canucks were heading to Overtime for the second game in a row. 

In overtime Canucks Captain #9 Ben Assad put one in the net with help from #28 Brett Van Os and #4 Allan MacPherson.  The Final score was 4-3 for the Canucks.
The game star for the night was #9 Ben Assad with the Overtime winner.

The Canucks are back at home this weekend where they will take on our cross-town rivals the Calgary Mustangs Friday night (Game Time 7:00 pm), before taking on the Camrose Kodiaks for the second time on Saturday (Game Time 5:00 pm).  Remember Saturday night is our Scare-tastic Halloween event starting at 4:15!
