Saturday night was Canucks Fan and Alumni Appreciation Night at Max Bell Centre. Before the game fans, parents, volunteers and alumni were invited to the Canucks tailgate party where there was live music by Backroad Traveler Band, a street hockey game for minor hockey players and pizza.
At 7:00 p.m. the Canucks took to the ice to take on the Olds Grizzlys. Both teams hit the ice looking for the win. The Grizzlys had the first power play opportunity of the night as #13 Austin Glenn headed to the box for hooking. With the Grizzlys unable to score on their power play opportunity the Canucks were looking to 1 for 1 on their power play, as the Grizzlys went off for too many men. Unfortunately the Canucks weren’t able to capitalize. The score was will 0-0 half way through the period. Both teams had one more power play chance in the period as #13 took a holding penalty at 11:04 and #22 Tyr Thompson went off for slashing at 17:12, however, neither team was able to put one on the board. At the end of the first there was no score and shots were 14-7 in favour of the Grizzlys.
The second period was fairly quiet. The Canucks received their third power play of the night at 4:00 of the second as #26 Cale Brown received a delay of game penalty. Through the two periods the game remained scoreless. Shots in the period were 10-6 for the Canucks.
At 8:30 of the third period Canucks forward #24 Dalton Ossman put one past Grizzlys goaltender #31 Ben Giesbrecht. Assists on the goal went to #25 Michael Spenrath and #17 Cale Chalifoux. The Grizzlys battled back to tie the game with a goal from #7 Chase Olsen. At the end of the third the game was ties 1-1 and the game was headed to OT.
The Canucks started OT on the power play as the Grizzlys took a team penalty for a bench minor. The Canucks had some chances but were unable to get one past goaltender #31 Ben Giesbrecht. After 5 minutes of play neither team was able to score so the game was off to the shootout.
The Grizzlys were up first as #15 Logan Franz took to the ice, but was unable to get one past Canucks goaltender #30 Logan Drackett. Up for the Canucks was #22 Josh Giacomin who was able to put one on the board. With the Canucks leading heading into round 2 of the shootout the Grizzlys sent out #14 Wyatt Noskey who was unable to score. The Canucks sent out #7 Chandler Irvin who put one in the net to take the game for the Canucks.
Canucks goaltender #30 Logan Drackett was selected as the game star saving 30 shots.
The Canucks would like to thank everyone who came to the game and all those who have supported the team throughout the season!
