Player Signings for 2013-14 Season

 The Calgary Canucks Jr A Hockey Club is pleased to announce the following player signings for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

ZACH DIETRICH – Zach comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA hockey club, were he was an integral part of the North Stars defense and a leader on their hockey club. Zach played 32 regular season games with the Northstars this past season and had 4 goals and 9 assists. Zach was an affiliated player with the Jr A Canucks last season where he played in 13 games and scored 1 goal. Zach was born in 1995 and is 6-1 and weighs 170 lbs. “Zach will be a big part of the new core of D-men we have, and a big part of the future for the organization. We are very excited to see him in a Canuck uniform.”

NICHOLAS HERMAN – Nicholas comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA hockey Club, were he was a valuable member of the defensive core. Nicholas played 27 regular season games with the Buffaloes and had 2 goals and 7 assists. In addition to the regular season, the Buffaloes advanced all the way to the south division finals in the AMHL playoffs against Red Deer, eventually loosing in game 5. Nicholas was an affiliated player with the Canucks last season and played in 5 games. We look forward to the leadership that Nicholas brings to the hockey club. Nicholas was born in 1995 and stands at 5-11 and 170 lb. “We expect Nick to play in all situations early in the year and be a rock on the point. We have seen what he is capable of and we know he can excel at the Jr “A” level.

MICHAEL JANZ – Michael comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Royals Major Midget AAA hockey club. Michael played 27 regular season games with the Royals and had 5 goals and 7 assists along with 12 PIM. Prior to this, Michael played a year with the Calgary Royals Major Midget AA where he had 15 goals and 12 assists in 22 games. Michael was born in 1995 and plays forward positions, weighs 170 lbs and stands at 5-11. “Mike is a very good power forward that can put the puck in the net. We are expecting him to jump right in and make an impact on the team.”

DEVIN NEMES – Devin is another player to comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA hockey club. Devin played 33 regular season games with the Northstars where he had 3 goals and 16 assists. In his previous year in Minor Midget AAA Devin had 7 goals and 28 assists in 27 games. Devin was born in 1996 and is a forward, 5-11, and 175 lbs. “Devin is a very smart player with the size and ability to be a very skilled power forward in the AJHL. We are excited to get him in a Canuck uniform and see what hecan do!”

WILLIAM NICHOLAS – William comes to the Canucks from the Edge program. Nicholas played in 43 games with the Edge Prep team last season and had 12 goals and 4 assists. Nicholas was born in 1995 and is a forward, 5-9, and 160 lbs. Will is a skilled, smart, hardworking forward that will fit great with the team we have. He can play in all situations and is going to.”

EVERETT PUTZ – Everett comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Royals Major Midget AA hockey club  where in 23 games he had 13 goals and 12 assists. Everett is 6-0 and weighs 170 lbs and is a forward and was born in 1995. “Everett is a very strong player with very good hands. he will fit right in. I think it is safe to say that Everett will be ready for main camp.”

DERYK SUTHERLAND – Deryk comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA hockey club where he played two years. This past season in 29 games and scored 1 goal and had 6 assists along with 16 PIM. Deryk as an affiliated player with the Canucks last season where he played in 11 games and had 2 assists.  Deryk was born in 1995 and is 5-8 and weighs 170 lb. “Deryk is an bull in a China shop… a stay a home d-man with good vision and a strong liking for the physical side of the game, Deyrk fits a need we have on the point, and is ready for the job.”

SAM PLAQUIN – Sam comes to the Canucks with some experience at the AJHL level in both Bonnyville and Okotoks. Sam was an affiliated player with the Canucks last season where he played 12 games and had 3 goals and 1 assist.”Sam had a rough go of it last year. That is in the past now, and he knows we expect him to be one of our top forwards this year.”

JORDAN WIEST – Jordan comes to the Canucks from the Lethbridge Major Midget AAA Pronghorns where he played two years as a defense-man. Last season in 33 games Jordan had 4 goals and 9 assists along with 130 PIM. Jordan was born is 1995. “Jordan is a big strong d-man that has the ability to make thing happen on offence. We needed a player of Jordan style and skill on the point.”

ANDREW McCANN – Andrew comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Royals Minor Midget AAA Gold. Last season in 29 games Andrew accumulated 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points to go along with his 61 PIM. ” Andrew is a young defenseman with a lot of potential”

BRETT DUMAINE – The Canucks are pleased to welcome Brett to the team. Brett played his minor hockey in Calgary with Trails West, Glen Lake and the Calgary Royals. In 2012-13 Brett was a member of the Estevan Bruins of the SJHL (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League). Brett was born in 1994 and brings some good size to the forward line being 6-5, and 200 lbs. In 45 games last year Brett had 5 points and 45 PIM's with the Bruins. 

OWEN JOHNSON – The Canucks are pleased to announce that they have signed Owen Johnson to their player roster for the upcoming season. Owen comes to the Canucks from the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA hockey club where he played the past two seasons. Owen was an affiliated player with the Canucks last season so he already has some experience at the Junior A level. Last season with the Buffaloes Owen had 4 goals and 5 assists in 30 games along with 54 PIM. Most of last season Owen spent being paired with Nicholas Herman, also from the Buffaloes, as a defense pairing so we look forward to their familiarity being an asset.
