Winning AJHL Team to Host 2025 Centennial Cup

Grande Prairie, Alberta – Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025: The Calgary Canucks have repeated as AJHL Champions after defeating the Grande Prairie Storm in four games in the 2025 Inter Pipeline Cup AJHL Finals.

The Canucks have won their eleventh AJHL championship, winning their second title in back to back seasons.

Canucks Captain Bowden Singleton was named the 2025 AJHL Playoff MVP after scoring six goals and 25 points in 12 playoff games.

“Winning our second straight cup and securing our place in the Centennial Cup as champions is an incredible feeling,” said Head Coach Brad Moran. “At the start of the season, we aimed to earn our way back, and the team rose to the occasion despite the pressure.”

In Game Four, the Canucks took an early lead, finishing the first period in Grande Prairie with a close score of 3-2.

After the opening moments of the second period, Calgary extended the lead by scoring two more goals, bringing the score to 5-2.

The Canucks managed to limit the Storm to just one additional goal, going onto win the final game of the 2025 playoffs with a decisive of 7-3 win.

Calgary had an impressive postseason, achieving a 12-1 record and sweeping both the South Finals and the AJHL Finals on their way to the championship.

“It’s ecstatic to see how far the team has come since the beginning of the year, when I joined the team, all the way up to now. Every player has stepped up, from the 16-year-olds to the 20-year-olds, with everyone playing a crucial role in our success,” said assistant coach Garry VanHereweghe.

Next month the Canucks will be host the National Junior A Championship, May 8-18 at the Max Bell Centre in the ten-team tournament.

Last season, the Canucks finished among the final four teams in Canada, coming close with an appearance in the Centennial Cup Semifinals, and look to win a Centennial Cup as a first time hosts.
