Weekly Recap: January 8 ? January 14

The Canucks had a little time off this week before taking the ice at Max Bell on Friday to take on the Camrose Kodiaks.  The Kodiaks were first to get on the board scoring a short-handed goal from #28 Jacob Kendall.  This would be the only goal of the period so the Kodiaks would head into the second with a one goal lead.  In the second the Kodiaks would increase their lead scoring three more goals.  Their first of the period came from #16 Tyler Schendel at 13:23 of the period.  The Kodiaks would extend their lead to 3-0 about a minute later.  Then with 1:16 remaining #20 Colby Wolter would add another to have a 4-0 lead heading into the third.  In the third the Canucks turned up the heat and were rewarded with a power play goal from #23 Mark Drohan.  Assists on the goal went to #19 Zach Russell and #8 Jaxon Steele.  The Canucks would move within two as #12 Andrew Marshall put one into the net to make it 4-2, after being set up by #17 Tyler Petrie and #2 Brody Medeiros.  The Kodiaks would then add another to their tally with a goal from #18 Kyler Kupka.  The Canucks wouldn’t let up as #23 Mark Drohan scored his second of the night from #12 Andrew Marshall and #17 Tyler Petrie.  The final score would be 5-3 Kodiaks.

Saturday the boys travelled out of town to take on the Drumheller Dragons.  The Canucks were first to strike as #22 Josh Giacomin put one in the back of the net from #19 Zach Russell and #2 Brody Medeiros.  With under two minutes remaining in the first #13 Cooper Johnson extended the Canucks lead off a pass  from #7 Michael Clarke and #8 Jaxon Steele.  Things would turn to start the second as #3 Andrew Kartusch cut the Canucks lead in half.  Then the Dragons would tie the game with a goal from #12 Brady Risk.  The Canucks would respond as #22 Josh Giacomin scored a short- handed goal to regain the lead. Then #36 Tyson Scott would even things up for the Dragons scoring on the power play.  With things even up in the third the Canucks would look to take the lead.  Things weren’t meant to be as #36 Tyson Scott scored another to put the Dragons in the lead.  Then with 4:32 remaining #39 Derrick Budz would extend the Dragons lead to 5-3.  Time would expire before the Canucks could tie things up.  The game ended 5-3 Dragons. 

Up next, the Canucks will host the Canmore Eagles at Max Bell Centre on Wednesday, January17th. The Canucks will head down to Okotoks for another match up against the Oilers on Friday , January 19th before hosting the Sherwood Park Crusaders at home next Saturday, January 20th.
