The Calgary Canucks have added two assistant coaches to their staff for the 2024-2025 season. Garry VanHereweghe will join as Assistant Coach, and Riley Hearn will join as Assistant Coach/Player Development Coach.
Garry VanHereweghe brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to the Canucks bench with over 25 years of experience in Junior A hockey. Garry is no stranger to the AJHL and has taken on many roles in several organizations including managing, scouting, and coaching roles. He was most notably the Head Coach of the 2000-2001 RBC Cup Champions, the Camrose Kodiaks, and was named AJHL Coach of the Year in that same year.
Riley Hearn joins the Canucks coaching staff after spending three seasons with the team. Riley was part of the Canucks leadership team as assistant captain for two seasons and has won the Don Phelps Leadership Award, Community Service Award, and was the AJHL RBC Community Ambassador. He has also spent the last several years coaching minor hockey and developing hockey players through Rush Hockey Development.
Garry and Riley will join Brad Moran (Head Coach/General Manager), Mat Robinson (Assistant Coach), Jamie Henry (Assistant Coach/Skills Coach), Mike Bergren (Goalie Coach), Ryan Rarick (Assistant GM/Head Scout), Wayne Andrews (Player Development, Rachelle Baril (Assistant GM, Business Operations), Logan Blackmore (Athletic Therapist/Strength Coach), Curtis Watling (Assistant Equipment Manager) and the rest of the Calgary Canucks Hockey Operations Team as they get ready for a successful season and a shot at another AJHL Championship and Centennial Cup.
