The Canucks had a great start to the weekend. The team beat the Okotoks Oilers 2:1 on Friday night. Carothers and Routheau scored the two goals in the Canucks victory. Player of the game was Canucks' Goalie #30 Logan Drackett. Drackett aved 49 shots on goal net during the game to help secure the 1 goal lead for the Canucks' second win in a row.
The following night, the Canucks hosted the Spruce Grove Saints, leader of the AJHL Viterra North Division. A full write up of the game against the Saints can be read below:
After a valiant effort the Canucks fall 2-1 against the Spruce Grove Saints.
Halfway through the first period the Spruce Grove Saints #16 Colton Leiter scored the first goal on a power play allowing the Saints to lead 1-0. The Canucks finished the first period out shot by the Saints 13-8 challenging the Canucks at the start of the second.
The Saints fought hard in the second period with 14 shots on net, but couldn’t get past Canucks goalie Logan Drackett. The period was calm with no goals and one penalty by Spruce Grove, leaving it at 1-0.
With determination in the third the Canucks and Saints challenged their strength as the Canucks tied up the game at 7 minutes and 30 seconds into the third. The score stayed the same until 3 minutes left in the game when Spruce Grove’s #28 Nicolas Correale made the winning goal with assist by Austin Hunter and Conner Lukan.
The game wrapped up with Logan Drackett saving 39 shots and the Saints Garrett Mason saving 21 shots on net.
