Canucks Defeat Cross Town Rivals 6-2!
Tuesday night the Canucks were looking for their fourth win against their cross town rivals the Calgary Mustangs. Things started in the Canucks favour as they were able to capitalize on three scoring opportunities in the first to have a 3-0 lead. At 10:07 in the first period #11 Dalton Ossman scored the Canucks first goal of the night. Assists on the goal went to #15 Zach Russell and #6 Scott Nicholson. #27 Jordan McConnell extended the Canucks lead to 2-0 scoring on the penalty kill with help from #19 Parker Ward. Before the period ended #22 Josh Giacomin and # 27 Jordan McConnell set up #19 Parker Ward for the Canucks third goal of the game. At the end of the first the Canucks led in shots on net 14-6.
The Canucks weren’t easing up as #27 Jordan McConnell got his second goal of the game from #19 Parker Ward and #23 Mark Drohan. At 16:33 in the second #15 Zach Russell put one in the net to put the Canucks up 5-0 with help from #11 Dalton Ossman and #25 Braydon Jenkins. After 40 minutes the Canucks were up 5-0 and shots were 28-14 in favour of the Canucks.
At 2:40 into the third the Mustangs got their first of the night with a goal from #27 Gage Joel. The Canucks pushed back scoring a power play goal at 8:27 from #9 Ben Assad. Assists on the goal went to #18 Matt Painchaud and #28 Brett Van Os. #7 Sine Chadi scored the Mustangs second goal of the night on the power play to bring the score to 6-2. The Canucks ended up winning the game 6-2 having a total of 44 shots on net.
With 3 points on the night, the star of the game for the Canucks was #19 Parker Ward.
Canucks Shut Out Kodiaks for a 4-0 Victory!
Wednesday night the Camrose Kodiaks were in town to take on the Canucks. In the first two match ups of the season the Canucks came away with the win and the Canucks were looking for their third win against the Kodiaks.
#11 Dalton Ossman scored the Canucks first goal of the night at 2:34 after the Kodiaks goaltender Patrick Gora got caught up behind the net. Assists on the goal went to #21 Kyler Magus and #25 Braydon Jenkins. Neither team was able to get anything on the board for the rest of the period so the Canucks maintained their 1-0 lead. Shots at the end of the period were 12-9 for the Canucks.
Things continued to roll in the second period as the Canucks scored 2 more goals to extend their lead to 3-0. #18 Matt Painchaud scored on the power play to put the Canucks up 2-0 with help from #23 Mark Drohan and #9 Ben Assad. With 50 seconds remaining in the period Canucks Captain #9 Ben Assad put one in the net after being set up by #28 Brett Van Os and #18 Matt Painchaud. After 40 minutes the Canucks led in shots 18-17.
With a quick start in the third #28 Brett Van Os put one past Patrick Gora to put the Canucks up 4-0. #18 Matt Painchaud and #9 Ben Assad received the assists on the goal. After holding off the Kodiaks for the remainder of the game the Canucks took the win 4-0!
#30 Logan Drackett was named the star of the game after recording his first shutout of the season.
Canucks Battle Back to Win Against the Grizzlys!
After going 1-1 against the Olds Grizzlys at the beginning of the season the Canucks were ready to take on the Grizzlys in their third matchup Friday night. The Canucks dominated on the ice in the first period but were unable to get anything past the Grizzlys goaltender. After 20 minutes the game remained scoreless with the Canucks leading in shots 13-3.
The second period saw lots of action in both directions. Olds opened the scoring at 4:52 of the period as #22 Tyr Thompson put one in the net. #11 Owen Guenter added another one for the Grizzlys extending their lead to 2-0. The Canucks weren’t backing down as #19 Parker Ward scored to bring the Canucks within one. Assists on the goal went to #21 Kyler Magus and #27 Jordan McConnell. Just 29 seconds later #19 Parker Ward got his second of the night from #27 Jordan McConnell. Continuing to battle hard #19 Parker Ward scored once again for his Hat Trick goal with help from #21 Kyler Magus. Canucks were up 3-2. The lead was short lived though as #21 Jeremy Klessens tied the game for the Grizzlys. At the end of the second the game was tied up at 3 apiece. Shots on net after two were 34-16.
With the third period underway the Canucks were looking for a strong period in order to take the game in regulation time. Things were back and forth until Canucks forward #18 Matt Painchaud scored on the power play to put the Canucks in the lead once again at 16:23 in the third. Assist on the goal went to #28 Brett Van Os and #9 Ben Assad. In an attempt to tie the game the Grizzlys pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. With the net empty #28 Brett Van Os put one in to solidify the Canucks lead with help from #9 Ben Assad. The Canucks took the game 5-3! Shots at the end of the game were 43-26.
Getting the Hat Trick #19 Parker Ward was selected as the Game Star for the Canucks.
Up next the Canucks start off the week with a visit to Canmore to take on the Eagles Tuesday night (November 15th). Then the Canucks are heading up north for a match up against the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday (November 18th) before travelling to Lloydminster for a battle against the Bobcats. After 3 games on the road the Canucks return home to Max Bell on Tuesday, November 22nd where they will host the Canmore Eagles.
