Canucks Name Darryl Olsen as Head Coach/GM and Welcome Assistant Coach Brad Moran

The Calgary Canucks Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Darryl Olsen will return as Head Coach and General Manager of the Calgary Canucks. Olsen joined the team in August 2017 before assuming the role of head coach in November of 2017. Prior to joining the Canucks, Olsen spent 8 years coaching the Midget AAA (16U and 18U) Utah Jr. Grizzlies of the NJPHL and acted as the interim head coach and GM for the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL. Darryl Olsen has an extensive hockey background having played for the Calgary Northstars of the AMHL, the St. Albert Saints of the AJHL, and the Northern Michigan University Wildcats of the NCAA. Following his time in the NCAA, Olsen went on to a professional hockey career in North America and Europe, which included playing for his hometown Calgary Flames. Olsen is excited to be back behind the Canucks bench and had this to say about his appointment as head coach, “I would like to thank the Canucks for the opportunity to be the Head Coach and General Manager over the next few years.  We are making a lot of changes as an organization and I am very excited to be a part of a positive reform.”

Joining Olsen on the bench as assistant coach will be Brad Moran. Moran is no stranger to the Calgary hockey community as he spent 5 seasons with the Calgary Hitmen where he holds a number of franchise records including career games played (357) and career points (450). After his time with the Calgary Hitmen, Moran went on to a successful professional hockey career in North America and Europe, playing NHL games for the Columbus Bluejackets and the Vancouver Canucks, before retiring with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL. “I am very pleased to be able to bring in a guy like Brad who is just finishing up a fantastic career,” Head Coach Olsen said about Moran, “He will be a huge asset to our organization working specifically with our forwards and specialty teams. I look forward to working with him and developing the group of young men we will be bringing in this year.”

The Calgary Canucks would like to welcome Brad Moran and his family to our Canucks family and to congratulate Darryl Olsen on his appointment as Head Coach and GM.
