Calgary, AB, Canada (July 26, 2023) –– The Calgary Canucks Junior A Hockey Club is excited to announce that they’re presenting Battle of Alberta: An Evening with Legends on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. The event is a once-in-a-lifetime evening with two giants of the game, Lanny McDonald from the Calgary Flames and Mark Messier from the Edmonton Oilers, who will relive a landmark rivalry in sports history. The Battle of Alberta became a tectonic clash between the Flames and the Oilers in the 1980s that forged legacies and created hockey heroes.

The event will be an evening of incredible food, great entertainment, live and silent auctions, and the chance to witness a candid hot stove lounge discussion by icons of the Battle of Alberta telling the untold truths of the greatest rivalry in NHL history. The evening will be held at ground zero for the battle, the Big Four Building at Calgary Stampede Park, and hosted by world-renowned TSN broadcaster Gord Miller.

At the time of this release, event organizers had already pre-sold half of the 100 tables available. Tickets are available at www.EveningWithLegends.ca.

The Calgary Canucks have selected the Sport for Calgary Foundation as a charitable partner and beneficiary of the Battle of Alberta: An Evening with Legends fundraising event. The Sport for Calgary Foundation’s mandate is to bring sport into the reach of all Calgarians regardless of their background, ability, or income. The Calgary Canucks also proudly announce that the Calgary Flames Foundation, its long-time partner, is a sponsor of the event. The Calgary Flames Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of southern Albertans through the support of health and wellness, education, and grassroots sports programming.

The event kicks off the four-day 2023 AJHL Showcase, presented by Nutrien Ltd. and hosted in Calgary, which attracts fans from across Alberta and will celebrate the AJHL’s 60th anniversary this year. Lanny McDonald and Mark Messier are both alumni of the AJHL, and the annual Showcase of AJHL talent draws coaches and scouts from the National Hockey League, NCAA Division I, II and III schools, U Sports and Canadian colleges and the Canadian Hockey League.
