The Calgary Jr A Canucks are pleased to announce that Jay Pylypuik will join the team as Head Coach and General Manager. Jay returns to the Alberta Junior Hockey League after three years coaching Midget AAA. Previous to that, Jay spent five years with the Canmore Eagles.
“I am very grateful to President Pat Loyer and the members of the Board for this opportunity,” said the new Head Coach Pylypuik. “It is with great pride that I accept this position with the Calgary Canucks. I look forward to the challenge of leading the Canucks in their new direction.”
Jay has been very active with Hockey Alberta and the Team Alberta Program, representing the province with Team Alberta on several occasions, winning gold as both a coach and director of operations. In addition, Jay is a coach mentor for Hockey Alberta for the Alberta Cup, Alberta Winter Games and the Future Leaders Program during which he was able to travel to China as a member of the Coach Exchange in 2011.
Growing up playing his minor hockey in Ponoka, Jay moved to Calgary to pursue his hockey dream, playing Midget AAA and the Jr. A with the then Calgary Royals before heading south to the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire for four years followed by a few year of minor pro in the ECHL, CHl and UHL. After retiring in 2000, Jay began coaching Bantam AAA.
