Canucks Announce New Director of Player Development and Scouting.

It’s with great pride that the Calgary Canucks announce their new Director of Player Development , Mr. Bob Wilkie.

A native of Calgary Alberta, Bob played in his hometown with the AMHL's Buffalos before moving up to the Wranglers of the WHL. Wilkie then spent three years with the Swift Current Broncos and accumulated 192 assists in his junior career. Chosen 41st overall by Detroit in 1987, the crafty blueliner totaled 38 points as a rookie pro with the AHL's Adirondack Red Wings in 1989-90.

Wilkie played eight NHL games for Detroit in 1990-91 then battled injuries the next season. In February 1993 he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers who sought defensive insurance. During the mid-90s he played with the Augsburg Panthers of Germany, sat out a year and was a West Coast League all-star in 1998 as a member of the Fresno Fighting Falcons.

Bob’s winning ways can only rub off on the storied AJHL Franchise. Bob has been on winning teams from the Bantam level to Professional hockey: Finalist in Bantam League Purolator Cup Championship 1984, Finalist Midget AAA Air Canada Cup Championship 1986, Winner, Mac's Major Midget Championship 1986, Participant in the elite under 17 Olympic Program 1987, Winner Junior A Championship Memorial Cup 1987 (Swift Current Broncos), Drafted by Detroit Red Wings 1987 41st overall, Winner of Calder Cup (Adirondack Red Wings) 1991, Winner Turner Cup, Ft. Wayne Komets 1993. 2 time WHL All-Star, American Hockey League All-Star 94.

“I am proud to be a part of the history of the Calgary Canucks. It is an exciting opportunity to share my knowledge with the players, coaches and parents of the organization. There is going to be a new brand of hockey in town and I hope the people of Calgary will get excited with us as there will be many opportunities for the young players within Calgary to showcase their talents. Winning is a process and I feel I can help the organization add a new exciting component to their program. Teaching the young players what it takes and most importantly to be aware of how to handle the challenges they face is a passion of mine”.  Bob Wilkie

“Straight out, Bob is a winner. We need to change the perception of the Canucks and Bob will be a huge part of the positive change. The need for the Calgary Canucks to
re-establish the respect it deserves as one of best and oldest franchise in the AJHL needs to happen now. The players out there need to know what the Calgary Canucks are about and what we can offer to create opportunities at the next level of hockey and/or life. I believe there is no better man for the job, than Bob Wilkie to help deliver that message to the future recruits of the Canucks. Bob will also work with the current players to open as many doors as possible and to make sure the team’s positive mental state is maintained. We are very excited for the change and can wait to get started.”  Ryan Barrett
