The Canucks finished off their exhibition season this past weekend with three games during the Canucks pre-season tournament. On Friday they defeated the Olds Grizzlys by a score of 8 to 1. On Saturday the Cancuks lost a rematch game from last Tuesday against the Canmore Eagles by a score of 4 to 1. Sunday, the Canucks defeated their cross town rivals the Calgary Mustangs by a score of 6 to 3.
The Canucks ended their exhibition season with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, scoring 19 goals for while allowing 7 against.
After the weekend, the Canucks reduced their roster down to 27 players, consisting of, 2 goaltenders, 8 defensemen and 17 forwards. Included are 12 returnees from last years club, 13 rookies and 2 others with Junior A experience. Of the 13 rookies on the club, 4 were affiliated players with the club last season. The club has a good mix of veterans and youth with 5 players born in 1993, 7 in 1994, 13 in 1995, 1 in 1996 and 1 in 1997.
The Canucks will now prepare for regular league play which will start this coming weekend. The Canucks will be in Olds Friday night Sept 6 to play the Olds Grizzlys and then travel to Canmore Saturday Sept 7 night to face the Canmore Eagles.
The Canucks will not play at home until Saturday Sept 21 when they will host the Whitecourt Wolverines as they open the season with five straight games on the road.
