Nucks News – November 2021

October is in the books and the Canucks went 3-7-2 after returning home from the AJHL Showcase.


October 6th vs Drumheller Dragons

Matt Corbet opened the scoring for the Canucks with his first of the year, before the Dragons would rally with three goals to take the lead. Justin Barker scored to make it a 3-2 game to end the first, but that would be all for the Canucks as the Dragons would take this game 5-2.

October 8th vs Camrose Kodiaks

Another high-scoring opening frame would find the Canucks down 3-1, with Riley Hern finding the back of the net for his first of the season. Kodiaks scored once more in the final 20 to win this game 4-1.

October 9th at Camrose Kodiaks

The second meeting in two nights for these teams would see the Kodiaks up 2-0 late in the 1st. Justin Barker responded on the powerplay to make it a 2-1 game just over a minute later with his 5th of the season. The Kodiaks took this meeting 5-1.

October 15th vs Blackfalds Bulldogs

The visiting Blackfalds Bulldogs would open the scoring with a powerplay goal in the 1st period and a second goal early in the first. Justin Barker scored in his second straight game to cut into the 2-0 Bulldogs lead late into the 2nd period. Barker would go on to score again in the 3rd, but it wouldn’t be enough as Bulldogs took the game 6-2.

October 16th at Olds Grizzlies

The Canucks and Grizzlies battled it out for a wild 1st period at the Olds Sportsplex, trading five goals. Olds opened the game with a shorthanded and powerplay goal before the Canucks would march back with three goals of their own, including one on the powerplay.   The Grizzlies would tie up the game in the 2nd period, ultimately winning this game in Overtime.  

October 21st at Canmore Eagles

Hat trick night in Canmore for Dylan Clark as the Canucks topped the Eagles 5-4.   The home team was leading 3-2 going into the 3rd period before Clark found the back of the net just under 5 minutes into the period. With Under 4 minutes to play at the Canmore Recreation Centre, Captain Conner Bertamini put one past Matthew Malin for the win.

October 23rd vs Lloydminster Bobcats

The Canucks picked up their second win in a row, with a victory over the Bobcats after going down 1-0 in the 1st period, The Canucks came out stronger in the 2nd period, scoring two goals and continued the strong play into the 3rd period for a 5-2 win. Calgary scored three powerplay goals in a row, with Ian Mills stopping 36 of 38.

October 24th vs Fort McMurray Oil Barons

After the 1st period, the visiting Oil Barons silenced the crowd with two goals to lead this game. The Barons grabbed another goal in the 2nd before Riley Hearn got himself in front of the net to get the Canucks on the board. Fort McMurray would take this game 4-1.

October 26th vs Camrose Kodiaks

The Canucks found themselves with a lead after two periods of play over the Kodiaks. Dylan Clark scored his second of the night in the 3rd going up 4-2 before the Kodiaks would storm back to tie it with two power-play goals with just over three minutes to play.   Justin Barker scored the tiebreaker and game-winning goal with 1:06 left to play for a 5-4. Ian Mills picked up his third win in a row.

October 29th at Bonnyville Pontiacs

The Canucks hit the road for a road trip with a stop in Bonnyville with a date with the Pontiacs. The host Pontiacs would take this one 7-1, with Justin Barker scoring the lone Canucks goal.

October 30th at Lloydminster Bobcats

Next up on the road trip was a meeting with the Bobcats at the Centennial Civic Centre Arena. The Canucks started the party with two goals from Ivan Kedrov and Dylan Clark before the Bobcats tied it back up, ending the first. The “˜Cats took a 3-2 into the 3rd before Justin Barker scored his tenth of the season and third goal in three games on the powerplay. The Canucks would settle with a point after the Bobcats found the winner in overtime.

October 31st at Camrose Kodiaks
Tough luck for the Canucks as they were blanked on the third stop of the road trip in Camrose.  Spencer Welke shut the door on Canucks with 17 saves in the 2-0 win, while Canucks Ty Young goalie stopped 27 of 29.

Player of the Month

Justin Barker is the player of the month with 7 goals and 14 points, being named Canucks star in 4 games in October. In his first season with the Canucks, the “˜02 born leads the team in points with 10 goals and 20 points.
