The Calgary Canucks have advanced to the AJHL South Division Finals after defeating the Camrose Kodiaks in the opening round of the AJHL Inter Pipeline Cup Playoffs, winning the series four games to one last Friday night.
“It was a tough series, and it was a good introduction for us to get into playoff hockey, that style of hockey, and knowing what it takes to win,” said Assistant Coach Mat Robinson. “I was happy with our team and how we responded. Losing one on the road and then coming out with a couple of tight wins after that was important for us.”
Next, the Canucks will face the Drumheller Dragons, who just wrapped up their opening round playoff series against the Canmore Eagles in a thrilling seven-game series on Tuesday night.

The Canucks took a commanding 2-0 series lead after opening the series home at Ken Bracko Arena. In game one, Camrose led 2-1 after two periods, but the Canucks rallied in the third period, scoring three goals to secure a 4-2 victory. In game two, the Canucks cruised to a 9-4 win, starting strong with four goals in the first period and finishing the game with another four goals in the third period.
When the series shifted to Camrose, the Kodiaks showed some life, jumping out to a 5-2 lead after the opening 40 minutes of play. The Canucks made things interesting in the third period by closing the gap to one goal, but the Kodiaks managed to hold on and win game three in Camrose. In game four, the Kodiaks made it a 2-0 just over 13 minutes into the game, but the Canucks stormed back scoring five unanswered to put the Canucks up 3-1 in the series with a 5-2 win.
In game five back at Ken Bracko Arena, the Kodiaks jumped out to another 2-0 lead but once again the Canucks rallied. Capitalizing on a power play halfway through the first period, Captain Bowden Singleton scored the first goal for his team to kick off the comeback. Later in the period, Hayden Fechner scored to tie the game at 2-2 by the end of the opening period. The Canucks went on to score three more goals throughout the game, with Luc Trevors sealing the victory by scoring into the Kodiaks’ empty net, winning the game and winning the series 4-1 over the Camrose Kodiaks.
Player Spotlight – #9 – Luc Trevors
Forward Luc Trevors leads the Canucks after the opening round of the playoffs scoring four goals and picking up nine points. Game two happened to be his best, where he scored twice in the Canucks 9-4 win over the the Camrose Kodiaks.
“I owe a lot to my linemates, we built a lot of chemistry over the last five games, and we’re not done yet,” said Trevors. “We plan to bring this energy into the next series and stay hot, so still lots to go, but I’m happy with how we played.”
Trevors has found another gear to game with nine points in five games after wrapping up his first season with the Canucks, where he scored 8 goals and tallied 22 points over 34 games.
