Calgary, Alberta – Thursday, April 18th, 2024: The Calgary Canucks are AJHL Champions after defeating the Whitecourt Wolverines in four games in the 2024 Inter Pipeline Cup AJHL Finals.

The Canucks have won their tenth AJHL championship, their first since 1999, and have claimed their spot at the 2024 Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario.

In game four, played home at Ken Bracko Arena the Canucks found themselves in a 2-2 tie game midway through the third period.

With under ten to play, Gavin Garland would break the tie with his ninth of the playoffs to take a 3-2 lead.

His goal would stand as the winner, as the Canucks went on win the 2024 Inter Pipeline Cup in a four-game sweep over the Whitecourt Wolverines.

“I don’t think it really set in yet,” said head coach Brad Moran, “They were there for each other, they don’t care who got credit. They covered for each other, someone made a mistake, someone else made up for it,” said Moran on his group this past season.

“And they took it to heart and played for each other, and then that’s clearly what it takes.”

Forward Ty Hipkin was named 2024 AJHL Playoff MVP as he led his team in the postseason, scoring nine goals in 18 points in 13 playoff games.

“There’s no better feeling. This is euphoric. I wouldn’t want to do with any other group of guys,” said Hipkin, “I think anybody could have done it. I gotta give a lot of credit to every single one of my teammates,” added Hipkin on winning Playoff MVP.

Next month the Canucks will head out east to compete for their second National Junior A Championship, May 9-19 at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in the ten-team tournament hosted by the Oakville Blades.
