The Calgary Canucks fell behind 23 seconds into the game and never recovered. The Grizzlys were in complete control for 60 minutes and left Calgary with a 4-1 win.
The Canucks came into the game 4th place in the South Division but with the loss the Canucks fell into 5th place in the South Division while the Grizzlys moved into 4th place.
It was Spencer Dorowicz staking the Grizzlys to a 1-0 lead 23 seconds into the game as he jammed the puck at the side of the Canucks net as part of a huge scramble around the Canucks net.
The Grizzly’s scored its second goal on its third shot at 8:32 of the second period when Chase Paylor completed a rush of the board to the net and poked the puck past Andrew Guglielmin.
The Canucks managed to get a few opportunities in the second half of the first period but the game remained 2-0.
The Canucks outshot the Grizzlys 7-6 at the end of the first period.
The Canucks were able to get on the board while on the penalty kill. Trent Geiger stole the puck and beat the goaltender Taylor Joseph from close range on a breakaway. The goal came at 7:34 of the second
The Canucks generated a few opportunities immediately after that goal to tie the game but all of them were turned away.
Brandon Clowes scored for the Grizzlys 3:28 after Geiger’s goal at 11:02 and made the game 3-1. That goal deflated the Canucks and from then on, the Canucks struggled to create any chances.
The Grizzlys outshot the Canucks 12-8 in the second period.
The Grizzlys sealed its winning fate at 8:34 of the third period with Landon Kletke scoring a goal on a tipped shot.
